Treatment Options
When it comes to TMJ, each treatment option begins with an examination and diagnosis of the problem at hand. As a neuromuscular dentist Dr. Hall has plenty of knowledge and skill when it comes to diagnosing and treating TMJ.
TMJ Treatment with Orthotic
A very common treatment type for TMJ is the neuromuscular appliance (or orthotic), which is similarly shaped and worn like a mouthguard. This is also known as oral appliance therapy. The appliance works by retraining the jaw muscles to close in the proper location.
This works because the orthotic contains a full impression of your teeth in their proper position so that the jaw can become balanced and aligned when you are wearing the appliance. As time passes you may be able to train your jaw and mouth to fall naturally into this position. When this becomes the case some patients opt to use an appliance solely for night time purposes.
Other Methods
Some patients may be more suitable for other TMJ treatment options such as weaning off of the oral appliance and having orthodontic therapy. Other patients may require a full mouth reconstruction, or rebuilding of your bite
